While enjoying free morning coffee and cakes, visitors will have an opportunity to see the facilities available, wander around the beautiful grounds and find out about membership to the club. The newly painted hard court belongs to the Midsummer House Restaurant and owners, Erdin and Angela Ismail, have decided they would like to see it in use. “We don’t play on the court anymore and it seemed a shame to leave it unused, so we decided it could be turned into a club,” explained Mr Ismail, who will be re-opening the restaurant on Thursday April 1. The Midsummer House restaurant was originally built as a private holiday home by the Ismail family 12 years ago. In 2006 after 28 years in the restaurant trade in the UK, they moved to live permanently in North Cyprus, however last year, with time on their hands, they decided to turn the house into a fine dining restaurant. Most of the vegetables used in the menu are grown in the gardens and everything is freshly prepared each day. “We opened in November for three months, then closed over the quiet period,” said Mr Ismail. “We decided to re-open in time for the Easter weekend and we thought it would be an ideal time to launch the tennis club at the same time.” The tennis court will be open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm and on Sundays 10am to 6pm, annual membership will cost 100TL and will include use of the swimming pool and 10 per cent discount from the restaurant. “The court will also be available to non-members at 10TL an hour,” said membership secretary Sarah Pollitt. “All funds raised will go towards the upkeep of the court and to provide racquets and balls if required. We want to be able to offer a nice environment for people to come and enjoy the game.” The tennis court is located just past the Dedeman Olive Hotel in the grounds of the Midsummer House restaurant in Catalkoy.
