Pegasos Car Treasure Hunt Report

Some 80 “Treasure Hunters” set off from Pegasos Restaurant in Karaoĝlanoĝlu at 10.30am on Saturday 4th April, in search of answers to over 80 questions about their 100-mile trip east to the Karpaz area.  They also had to contend with 24 General Knowledge questions for the Cyprus Today Tiebreaker Trophy.

Up hill, down dale, competitors saw every aspect of the Cyprus countryside – coast, farmland, forests, traditional Cypriot villages and ways of life.  All the way to Dipkarpaz, the countryside was magnificent, after the rain we have had this winter, the display of flowers and greenery was breathtaking.  Lois Cemal of Delcraft in Büyukokknuk had some of her ladies out making traditional food which many sampled on their way through. 

Early afternoon saw the first cars arriving at the Balcı Plaza Hotel at Yeni Erenköy.  In the main it appeared that there hadn’t been too many in-car rows!  After tucking into a light lunch people dispersed to their hotels and got ready for the evening’s prize giving dinner at the Nitovikla Gardens Hotel in Kumyalı.

Competition was close only four points separated the top three places in the Treasure Hunt, first place going to the party of Ted Pledger, second went to Tim and Helen May and third to the party of Maurice Carling.  Scott Kennedy of FMA had provided the most magnificent trophies and Fiden Kuman of Credit West Bank provided the stunning flower bouquets.

Apart from having an excellent day and night out and seeing parts of Cyprus that many had not seen before, a fantastic £1100 was raised for the Lefkoşa Haemodialysis Unit – it is hoped that a subsidised transport system can be organised to help patients get to the unit for their thrice weekly treatments.
