Flowers and Fauna

Northern Cyprus can be a thing of beauty, adorned with magnificent mountain ranges, fairy tale castles and glorious ruins, but all these can pale into the backgound when you see its myriad of flowers and fauna.
Northern Cyprus is replete with colors when the red, white, pink, yellow turban buttercups bloom on the hillsides of this region.

Other notable varieties include  the lovely Kotschy’s bee orchids, endemic elegant orchids, Anatolian orchids and Bornmueller’s orchids.

There are far too many to list here but the Cyprus sweet Vetch, Caseys Larkspur, Kythrean Sage amongst various others are beautiful fauna common in many areas. The vetch is a butterfly shaped pink flower, while the Larkspur and Sage are violet and yellow respectively. Probably the most famous flower in Northern Cyprus is the Black Tulip, although not technically a Tulip it grows in only in Cyprus, there is even a festival dedicated to it.
Most flowers bloom between March and June but there are species in every month of the year to smell and admire.
